People have been attracted by various patterns and curlicues at all times. Apropos, each epoch and each nation had its own original motives. In this case the curlicues consist of absolutely abstract elements and do not belong to any style. Such creations (their principle is vector like) can be used in printmaking, typography of different documents, cards and so on. At the proper time people used to prepare book typography very thoroughly. Books were decorated, headpieces, end-pieces, row ornaments, vignettes, lace patterns, decorative initials, curlicues, cartouches, edging, pages borders, rosettes, flourishes, chapter-ending pieces, corner-pieces, end-pieces and cornerpieces were elaborated for them (you can see how many special terms are exists). And each book represented a masterpiece even if its subject-matter was worth nothing. In the course of time everything has been simplified, decorations have almost disappeared from books and remained only in cards and diplomas
